What should I expect at the first appointment?

All appointments are 50 minutes in duration, including your first appointment. You will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire at the beginning of the session; this will help us track your progress throughout therapy. The first session involves the therapist getting to know your presenting issues, history, and general lifestyle. At the end of the session, you and your therapist will agree on clear goals to work towards. It's important that you raise any questions about therapy or uncertainties in the first appointment. If you have been referred under a Mental Health Care Plan, a brief letter will be written back to your referring doctor.

Medicare rebates under the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and private rebates.

If you have been referred by your GP under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), you are eligible for up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year. The Medicare rebate for a standard consultation is $126.50 for a Clinical Psychologist. If you have a MHCP please bring it to your first session.

 

You may wish to attend therapy "privately" meaning that the cost is completely out of pocket or that a rebate will be claimed from your private health insurance. Rebates vary on the insurance company and your level of cover. Please check your eligible rebate beforehand. If you plan to claim your sessions through private health insurance, please retain a copy of your receipt and claim it directly through your insurance company.

What are the fees?

Fees are payable at the time of service delivery by EFTPOS, credit card or direct debit. Cash payments will not be accepted. Initial and subsequent appointments are $195 ($68.50 gap under a MHCP). These rates are competitive compared to the recommended rates.

Meetings at workplaces or schools will incur a fee of $195 (within hours) + $60 (travel fee). Teleconference meetings where the therapist does not need to travel will be billed according to the standard fee. Please be aware that meetings are not rebated under the MHCP.

Cancellation Policy and why do you have one?

We have a strict cancellation policy. Appointments which are cancelled within 48 hours of the appointment incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the session fee. We apply a cancellation policy because failure to give sufficient notice means that another client has potentially missed out on an appointment time.

 

If more than 48 hours notice of cancellation is given or if it's an emergency, no fee will be incurred. Please be aware that cancellation fees cannot be claimed back from Medicare.
